welcome to this is a long shot . com...

If you are on this page it is probably because you have found one of the 50 USB pen knives that we have left lying around this year's Cannes Film Festival.

This Swiss Army style gadget has scissors, a pointer, a pen and also comes with a 512MB USB key that currently contains a copy of this site.

Who are we?

We are the O'Connor Brothers (Matthew & Barnaby), two British filmmakers who went to America last year to make a movie,
'A Horse With No Name'.

We had a budget of $10,000 and five weeks to do it. What we didn't have was a script.

The idea was to make the movie up as we went along and get a documentary crew to follow us around. We were also going to keep the fact we didn't have a script a secret from everybody, including our actors.

The thinking was that as long as we could write the scenes fast enough to shoot regularly, we'd be in the clear and everybody would be none the wiser. Sounds simple right? The best laid plans...

The documentary - '13 States'

Unsurprisingly in retrospect, the shooting of the movie quickly became an unmanageable fiasco.

'13 States' is the documentary that follows what happened.

Forget the glamorous 'behind-the-scenes' featurettes that ship with most studio releases, this is car crash independent filmmaking at its most brutal.

From the lead actor breaking his ankle in two places to the lead actress walking out on the first day, never to return, this is behind-the-scenes as you have never seen it before.

'A HORSE WITH NO NAME' - THE MOVIE THAT SURVIVED PRODUCTION BY THE SKIN OF ITS TEETH

Shooting was originally delayed by almost two weeks, leaving three weeks to finish the movie and travel from New York to L.A., our final destination.

Through a mixture of luck, serendipity and good fortune we did (just about) manage to get it done.

Here then, for your gentle consideration, is the trailer for 'A Horse With No Name', the movie that survived production by the skin of its teeth.

It is the story of an obnoxious DJ who meets a princess with a bitch of an attitude by chance one morning in New York and they unexpectedly hit it off.

By the time she leaves to return home, the DJ has fallen in love and thus begins an epic journey across the America to find her again. On the way he discovers America, himself, the price of gas and true love.

THROWING IT OUT THERE...

We have left these USB pen knives in random locations all over Cannes. Perhaps you picked yours up in a hotel lobby, found it on the grass next to the Grand Lumiere or on the counter of the sandwich shop you get breakfast at every morning.

The hope is that someone who can help us out will pick one up, view the site (a copy of which is on the key), like what we're doing and get in touch or tell someone they know who might be interested in helping us.

We understand that with only fifty of these things in circulation the chances are slim but hey, it's worth a try...

We hope you enjoyed reading about this and that your gift comes in handy.

If you like what we do, please help us spread the word however you can. We are keen to talk to distributors, financiers, journalists and basically anyone else who can help get the word out and promote the movie. If you'd like to contact us for any reason, here are our details:
